The Phases of Style Coaching : Your Wardrobe. The Clothes.
Alex & Lucy continue their conversation on evaluating, planning, and building your wardrobe.
Previously, they explored how to take stock with an inventory, assess storage space, and get prepared.
This time, they move onto the next step: going through your clothes. And they cover a lot in their conversation!
Evaluating your wardrobe is about learning, exploring and discovering – not just letting go of items.
Think of it as shopping in your own wardrobe. Every piece you keep or let go of teaches you something and your wardrobe becomes a place of discovery. It’s about moving forward in a way that feels empowering and full of possibility.
Alex & Lucy walk through how to assess each item:
- Why is it here?
- Why does it work — or not?
Having concerns about this process is normal. It’s easy to think its only about letting go of things and needing to shop. But as you go through you’re learning:
- What works or not
- What no longer serves you
- Where the true gaps are
This helps you build a wardrobe that supports you in your life today.
And you can take your time. Think of it as a project and not a task.
You don’t need to empty your entire wardrobe at once; that can feel overwhelming. You can work category by category and keep it manageable.
Trying things on as you go can be exhausting, time consuming and distracting. Instead, sort items into piles to keep organised. For example: keep, try on, alterations/mending, sentimental, donate (charity/family/friends), sell. And have a not sure box for pieces that need more thought and can be revisited later.
As you go, keep two running lists – what to buy and what not to buy – to help you shop with clarity and focus.
And remember to celebrate as you go along. This process takes time; weeks or months if necessary.
You’re making space for clothes you love to wear every day.
