Leigh & Lucy talk about the technical elements of clothing and style

Style – The Technical Bits
Lucy and Leigh talk about style; one element of a successful wardrobe.
The word style can conjure up a variety of images and thoughts; people, celebrities, eras, particular clothing items, magazines, interior design. It can a defined as a painting style, leadership style and so on.
The word style can also be defined in terms of the technical elements of clothing.
The technical elements of style to consider:
- Your body shape. It’s a starting point to get to know your body and how you want to dress it.
- Colour. How and where you use colour; colour and style are interconnected
- Clothing lines. Knowing how clothing lines – horizontal, vertical, diagonal – work on your body can make such a difference to whether you love a piece or not
- Proportions and ratios. Working with these helps when putting outfits together
- Scale. Everything is seen in relation to what surrounds it and, once you know the scale that you like and that works for you, you can start to get creative with confidence
- Fabric. Fabric is a fundamental reason you like a piece or not. There is so much variety when it comes to fabric.
Becoming aware of these technical elements of clothes makes choices conscious rather than a trial and error process. It helps in creating your own personal style and dressing in a way that works for your body and your life as you go about your day. Shopping is much easier too!
